An anchor is the connection point that secures the entire fall protection system to a structure. The anchor attaches to structural elements like beams, concrete, or roof decking. A self-retracting lifeline or lanyard connects to the anchor on one end, typically with a carabiner or snap hook, and to the worker's harness on the other end. This creates a complete personal fall arrest system: anchor point, connecting device (SRL or lanyard), and a full body harness.

Match the anchor to your roof material and length of your project.

• For wood roofs, use a truss or adjustable pitch anchor
• For metal roofs, use a standing seam anchor
• For temporary projects, use a reusable anchor
• For facilities that will require consistent roof access, use a permanent anchor.

Temporary anchors are designed to be removed after a project is complete. Leaving them installed can void warranties, create tripping hazards, and allow unauthorized use by unqualified workers. Remove temporary anchors and patch fastener holes per the roofing manufacturer's recommendations. If ongoing fall protection is needed, use a permanent anchor.
