If they're working near a leading edge, a standard, portable self-retracting lifeline (SRL) isn't enough to keep them safe. Most SRL components aren't tested to withstand the sharp edges workers may encounter when tying off at foot level. At Malta Dynamics, we've developed fall protection systems that allow workers to enjoy all the perks of an SRL while protecting them near leading edges. Our Leading Edge 50' w/ Snap Hook is the longest Leading Edge product in our inventory. It features a 360-degree swivel top connection point that allows the durable thermoplastic housing to rotate as the person moves. This SRL also has a sturdy galvanized steel cable with a built-in strike test grip for added safety. Our Leading Edge 50' w/ Snap Hook has been tested to meet the strict standards of ANSI Z359.14-2021, and OSHA 1926 Subpart M and OSHA 1910. Product Downloads: SRL Manual SRL Spec Sheet Declaration of Conformity SRL Inspection Form How to Inspect Your Leading Edge SRL Correctly Inspecting equipment before every use is crucial to your employees' safety. Follow these pre-use inspection tips to keep your Leading Edge fall protection system in good condition for years to come: 1. Examine Metal Components Before using your Leading Edge SRL, inspect the: Fall indicator: The fall indicator is located at your SRL's connection point. If it has been tripped, you'll see a red indicator. You should not use the device if the fall indicator is tripped. Snap hook: Check to make sure the SRL's snap hook opens and closes correctly. Press on the gate to confirm it can't be forced open and ensure the snap hook isn't bent or deformed in any way. 2. Inspect the Housing Ensure all of the fasteners are present and tightened, and check the label for the manufacture date, part number, serial number and batch number. 3. Check the Cable If the cable gets tangled in the housing, the SRL won't arrest a fall. Examine the entire length of the cable for cuts, burns, frays, kinks or tears. 4. Perform a Strike Test To test your SRL's braking mechanism, grip the handle and quickly pull down on the cable. Place all the force above the fall indicator so you avoid accidentally triggering it. If the brakes don't engage, you should remove the SRL from service. This makes them attractive pieces of equipment to use as a lifeline while working at heights, but not all fall hazards are the same. When working near a leading edge, a standard portable SRL is not an adequate choice. The components of most SRLs are not tested to stand up to the sharp edges that could be encountered when you tie-off at foot level. At Malta Dynamics, we have developed a range of leading edge fall protection systems to allow the worker to enjoy all the perks of using a self-retracting lifeline. The Leading Edge 30’ SRL with snap hook features a 360° swivel top connection point that allows the durable thermoplastic housing to rotate as you move and boasts a sturdy galvanized steel cable with built-in strike test grip. The SRL extends as the user moves away from the anchor point and retracts as the user moves back toward the anchorage point. The ANSI Class 2 rating features a versatile design, allowing for use above and below the back D-Ring. The Malta Dynamics Leading Edge Self-Retracting Lifeline with Snap Hook is tested to meet the strict standards of ANSI Z359.14-2021 Class 2, ANSI A10.32-12, OSHA 1926 Subpart M and OSHA 1910. Using outdated or faulty safety materials can have a detrimental outcome if a fall occurs. You should inspect your gear prior to every use. Here are some tips on how to successfully perform a pre-use inspection of your self-retracting lifeline. Examine Metal Components: The Fall Indicator: located at the connection point on your SRL. When the force indicator has been tripped, it indicates that fall-like impact forces have been applied on the self-retracting lifeline. If the fall indicator has been tripped, you will see a red indicator at the connection point and the device should be immediately removed from service. The Snap Hook: Ensure the mechanism opens and closes properly. Press on the gate to confirm it cannot be forced open. Please check to validate that the snap hook is not bent or deformed in any way. Inspect the Housing: Ensure all fasteners are present and tight. Inspect the label for serial number, batch number, manufacture date and part number. Inspect the Cable: If the cable gets tangled in the housing, it is no longer adequate for arresting a fall. Inspect the entire length of the cable for cuts, burns, frays, kinks, or tears. Perform a Strike Test: Grip the handle and quickly pull downward on the cable, place all the force above the fall indicator so you do not accidentally trigger it. This will test the braking mechanism of your SRL If you follow these tips and perform regular inspections, you will keep your SRL healthy for years of continued use. The temporary horizontal lifeline bag comes as a complete system that includes a tensioning device, energy absorber, rope, steel O-Rings, self-locking carabiners, and cross arm straps. The only parts that aren't included in this HLL bag are the anchor points. The anchors you use with this system must be sturdy and approved by a Competent Person for compatibility before work is started. If there is no suitable anchorage on the jobsite, mobile fall protection systems, like the Malta Dynamics XSERIES Mobile Grabber, can be utilized to create horizontal lifelines. The entire temporary horizontal lifeline system fits in this bag and weighs only 22.9 lbs. The system can be assembled and removed within minutes with the included tensioning device and wrench; no additional tools are required for the set-up process. The 100’ lifeline is made from 5/8” double braided kermantle rope and offers protection for up to 4 users at the same time. The metal materials for the connectors and tensioning device are corrosion resistant and sturdy enough for repeated use from one jobsite to the next. At Malta Dynamics, our parapet clamp system allows you to put your SRL in place with a sturdy connection that helps support weight and keep your workers safe. The reusable device is easy to install and won't cause damage to the wall. Your workers can use our parapet anchor on walls varying in thickness from 2.36" to 14.1". On a jobsite, time is critical, but you never want to compromise your workers' safety. Equipment that offers intuitive usage is the best type to have on your site, as it cuts back on time without putting your employees in danger. It takes just a minute or two to secure the parapet clamp, and your workers can adjust it to reposition around the worksite. You can feel confident in the sturdiness of our design. Our temporary parapet edge protection provides a practical solution in areas where you otherwise couldn't use an SRL. Put Safety First When You Use Our Parapet Grabber The anchor comes with specific directions for installation and application. Ensure your workers read and understand the instructions, as their safety depends on using the parapet clamp correctly. For example, you need a minimum wall height of 9' to use our parapet anchor. Instructions for Installation of Parapet Clamp Fall Protection The Parapet Anchor is intended to be installed on a parapet wall up to 14.1 inches (360mm) thick. Unscrew the set screws so the points do not protrude into the anchor slot. Remove the detent pin and move the adjustable arm back far enough to allow the clamp to fit over the parapet wall. Make sure the top surface within the anchor slot is fully seated on the parapet wall. Slide the adjustable arm toward the parapet wall and reinsert the locking pin through the position setting holes. Tighten each set screw until it makes contact with the parapet wall. Hand tighten the screws until snug. Excessive torque can damage the parapet wall or the parapet wall anchor.
