What you need to know: Helmets vs. Hardhats, Type 1 vs. Type 2, Class C and Class E. What we know as traditional hard hats, are most of the time rated ANSI Z89.1 Type 1 head protection devices; helmets although not always, are usually ANSI Z89.1 Type 2 head protection devices. The classification for Type 2 includes impact testing for the top, sides, front, and back, along with additional testing for a chin strap. Type 1 is tested only for top impact (falling objects...). Class E is electrical rated up to 20,000v. Class C is regular non-electrical rated. Also be sure to check out our new Full-Brim helmets for their traditional look with a top safety rating.
- Type 1: Top of head protection (falling objects)
- Type 2: Top, front, back and side protection
- Class C: No electrical protection
- Class E: Electrical rated up to 20,000v.
